Hello! Kia ora! Hola!

I am Emily and I am from New Zealand. I am 21 years old and have recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Spanish.

I am very lucky because the Ministry of Education in Spain has given me a placement in Navàs at Sant Josep school to help the children learn English.

This blog is for all the children and their families, the Ministry of Education, for the people at home and anyone else who is interested!

Our aim over the next six months is to help improve the students with their oral and conversational English.

But I will start from the beginning...

SUMMER IN ENGLISH WEEK TWO

Hello, what fun we have had this week.
Our theme was the world and we learnt about America, Asia and Africa (we didn´t have time to do Europe and NZ!) We made powerpoints and played games, finger puppets and performed a theatre at the end of the week "The Magic Carpet".

Here are the photos from the week:
And here are the videos:

SUMMER IN ENGLISH 27 June - 1 July

THE CIRCUS

This week we have had a lot of fun in summer in English at Sant Josep. Monday we learnt that our topic for the week was the CIRCUS! We made juggling balls :) Tuesday we made some masks and prepared for the end of week performance, then we had a water fight. Wednesday we made a dance in the gym and then painted animals on our hands. Thursday we finished our powerpoints we had been working on about animals in the circus and spent the afternoon working on the performance for tomorrow. Friday we will have an evaluation, perform our CIRCUS and then have another water fight! What fun.
Thank you to all the children and to Marina Sala for this weeks summer in English´s memories. I want to apologise for the lost photos from Monday and Tuesday but you can see some of our antics and the power points below:

VOKI´s

In 6é I have made VOKI´s with the students. This was a lot of fun, you can see everyones VOKIs under their names at this link http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/6evokis.

You can all make your own account and make VOKI´s at home and practice your English! How cool!

The month of May 2011

Well it is nearly time to say goodbye to Navàs. It will be a sad day. But we have had a lot fun and I have made many new friends.

Did you know that in New Zealand the month of May is New Zealand music month, this means we celebrate and promote music made in and by New Zealanders, you can find more information at the link below:

In classes we have continued practising Flyers and Movers exams so Fina & I hope that the children will be ready to sit their speaking exams soon!

Let´s have lots of fun and I know we are looking forward to summer-time and holidays!

2 May - 5 May 2011

This was another fun week, Spring fever is in the air as there was the Spring fair in the weekend.
This week I started making VOKI´s with the Year 6, when it is finished we will hang them up for everyone to see. I showed the classes a short ad from NZ and afterwards had them describe what they could remember, take a look here

Also, it was my birthday on 5 May and the school gave me a big surprise! They waited out in the school playground and surprised me singing Happy Birthday, there were lollies and cake and cards and a lot of love, I was very happy, THANK YOU to everyone!

Only 3 weeks left to go, it is hard to believe!

Until next week... BYE!

The End of April

Well time never stops racing by, we have had easter holidays which were a lot of fun! We can not believe that there is only one month left here at the school before we begin new adventures. We are busy practicing speaking tests for the exams in classes, I think everyone has improved in their spoken English! This week I have shown the children a story about how the islands of New Zealand were created / found...

One day there was a man called Maui (this is a well-known Maori god), he went fishing and caught a BIG fish, this fish looks like a sting-ray which represents the North Island, the South Island of New Zealand is said to be Maui´s canoe. Have a look: The Fish of Maui

The last few weeks ... (March - 1 April 2011)

¡HOLA! Well 2 more months left and it is hard to believe.

We had the white week (Semana Blanca) and I think most of us really enjoyed the holiday after all.

In the classes we have been singing a great song Don´t Worry Be Happy.
Now the kids repeat "Don´t Worry, Be Happy!" It always makes me smile, have a look below:

We also have looked at some typical food from New Zealand, the most popular was (no surprises!) the Lolly Cake and Hokey-Pokey ice-cream! You can see the slides below:

Until next time, adios!

21 Feb - 24 Feb 2011

Hi there! Wow, how quickly is the time flying by!

This week we read a popular book from New Zealand called Hairy Maclary, it has some funny rhymes.

With Year 5 we Skyped my parents in New Zealand, this was a lot of fun, it was strange for us to be talking to each other yet be so far away, the wonders of technology! It was about 9.30am for us here in Navàs and 9.30pm for New Zealand. So we were just beginning our day as they were ending theirs!
Have a look at the photos and video:

LIPDUB for Col.legi Sant Josep

17 January - 20 January 2011

Another week has gone by very quickly. And it has been another FUN week at school.

This week we looked at animals in New Zealand... We continued talking one on one and the children are a lot more relaxed around me, so it is easier for us to make progress which is rewarding to see.

Our project is nearing its final stages... I will be sure to upload the finished work with pride. 5é have been working hard and I think we will have a lot of fun putting it altogether.

But here is the presentation about animals, until next week, bye bye!
